US filmfest screening Iran’s ‘Driving Lesson’

The Washington, DC Int’l filmfest in US is screening Iran’s short ‘Driving Lessons’.

The Washington, DC International Film Festival (Filmfest DC) in the US has been screening acclaimed Iranian short flick ‘Driving Lessons’.

Directed by Marzieh Riahi, the 13-minute award-winning film is among the 9 competition titles at the Short Cuts section of the US event’s 34th edition.

‘Driving Lessons’ narrates a feminine story about a young woman named Bahareh who must have her traditional controlling husband accompany her on driving lessons so that she and her male instructor would not be alone.

The flick has so far been showcased at a number of international events and won some awards, including the jury’s special award at the Film Festival for Women’s Rights in South Korea, the best short drama award at the “I Will Tell” international film festival in the UK, and the best film award at the Religion Today Film Festival in Italy.

It has also been awarded the Best Short Narrative at the Through Women’s Eyes International Film Festival and the Best Long Narrative at the Big Muddy Film Festival, both in the US.

The “Filmfest DC is the largest and longest running film festival in Washington, DC”, according to the event’s official website.

This year’s edition of the fest, which is being held online over the coronavirus pandemic, kicked off on October 2 and will run until October 11.
